📝 Animals with Unusual Abilities

👋 摘要

The diagram shows different animals with unusual abilities and how they are able to perform them. Mudskippers can stay alive out of water by getting oxygen from air and water, while tree frogs can glide from one tree to another with their big feet and webbed toes. Geckos can walk upside down with their special toes, and mudskippers can climb trees with their leg-like fins and suction cup on their belly. Flying fish can glide to escape enemies, and paradise flying snakes can glide from tree to tree and climb them by gripping the bark with their scaly tummy.

Turn to page 20. Which frogs can fly? Tree frogs. They can climb trees and some kinds can even glide from one tree to another. These unusual frogs have big feet with long webbed toes. When they spread their toes out, the webs of skin between them act like parachutes and help the frogs to glide. Which animals can walk upside down? Geckos are small lizards and some can walk upside down. They have special toes which help them to cling on. Which fish can climb trees? The last place you would expect to see a fish is up a tree. But then the mudskipper is a very, very odd fish. It climbs with its leg-like fins, clinging on with a sort of suction cup on its belly. Flying fish don't really fly. Instead, they leap out of the sea and then spread out extra long fins which help them to glide. They do this to escape their enemies. The paradise flying snake can glide from tree to tree. To climb them, it grips the bark with its scaly tummy. The ridges of a geckos toe are covered in tiny bristles, each of which ends in a tiny sucker pad. Unlike most fish, mudskippers can get oxygen from air as well as water. This allows them to stay alive out of the water.
